Roman Way First School

Home Parent Information

Children begin Nursery in September after their third birthday.  The first few years of a child's education provide the foundation for their whole schooling. A child's first steps in education begin at home and at Roman Way we work to develop a partnership between home and school so that we can build on your child's current knowledge. We have an open door policy in the Nursery and we are available to talk to you about anything you wish to discuss.

Our Nursery provides 15 free government funded hours to all nursery children.  We are also part of the government funded 30 free hours.  To check your eligibility for this funding please visit the government website:   For parents that are not eligible for 30 free hours, we offer the facility for parents to pay for additional 3 hour sessions at a cost of £9.00 per session plus a 45 minute lunch club at £2.00 per session.  Lunch club can be used without buying the additional 3 hour sessions.  A dedicated Nursery Breakfast Club is also available for our Nursery children, priced at £3.00 per session including breakfast.  We also have an after school club on the school premises run by Fairplay After School Club.  Please contact Fairplay directly on 0790 500 1403to arrange a place.

We have one intake for nursery in September.  We offer 26 places in the morning session and 26 in the afternoon session. Sessions are staffed by a Teacher and a NVQ 3 qualified Teaching Assistant.  The Nursery is equipped with a variety of excellent resources both indoors and outdoors to encourage all areas of learning in play in line with the new Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.  We also offer swimming lessons in the summer in our own outdoor heated pool.
