Owls Weekly Update 2.12.24
Last week we had a visit from Constable Clarke. He came to tell the children about what the police do to keep us safe. Constable Clarke wore his police uniform and showed the children the equipment that he uses as part of his job. The children tried on various police hats, used his police torch and tried on his safety vest. Constable Clarke explained that the police help people if they are lost or in danger.
We pretended that we were police officers. The children had to find the missing toy that had been hidden in the outdoor area. In small groups, they had to look under, on or behind objects. This activity helps children to concentrate, develop language skills and to take turns.
This week we have been thinking about what doctors and vets do. The children were very keen to pretend to be vets. There was lots of role play about being a vet and looking after pets. The children shared and talked about any pets they have at home. We have been reading these books:
Mrs Inskip brought in her guinea pigs from home and the children got to hold and stroke them. We talked about how to care for guinea pigs and talked about similarities and differences to their lives e.g. we drink water and so do guinea pigs, we need to eat vegetables like guinea pigs, we need a cosy home to live in and we both need to exercise to keep healthy. The children thoroughly enjoyed having the guinea pigs visit the nursery.
