Owls Weekly Update 10.1.25

Welcome back after the two-week break. Also, a warm welcome to our new starters and their families. I would also like to say a warm welcome to Mrs Jacklin who has joined the nursery teaching team.

This week we have been reading a book called 'Where's Lenny?' by Alanna Max. It is about a little boy who likes to play hide and seek with his Daddy. We have been using the story to develop our vocabulary, practising speaking and responding to questions in sentences. For example, 'What does Lenny like to play?' 'Lenny likes to play hide and seek'.

We went to the woodland area to play hide and seek. Despite the cold weather, the children had great fun either covering their eyes and counting to 10 or finding places to hide from their friends.  Outdoor learning has a huge impact on children's social and emotional well-being and this is something that we feel is important in the Roman Way Academy!

Please ensure that your child has appropriate clothing (hat, gloves, scarf and a warm coat) as we regularly go outside.

Within the story, Lenny eats jam toast. We smelt and tasted strawberry and raspberry jam. The children had an opportunity to spread butter/jam on a piece of toast and to eat it as part of their snack.

As the weather has been cold, we have been exploring, first hand, the frost and ice. Some of the children tried to dig in the sand and found that it was too hard. This led us to explore how we could break up the sand. We used children's hammers to break up the ice and sand.
