Weekly Update - w/c 23 September
A very rainy week saw us spending lots of time inside but we still managed to keep busy and active.
We started the week with International Day. Our country was Spain. It was fantastic to see the children dressed in their red and gold colours. We practised greeting each other in Spanish ('hola' for hello and 'adios' for goodbye) and watched some flamenco dancing. We learnt that Spain grows lots of oranges and olives. The children had the opportunity to try olives (not very popular!) and some tostada (toast) with orange marmalade (much better received!)
In phonics this week, we have learnt the new phonemes (sounds) i, n, d, m. In our daily lessons, we are also practising blending the phonemes we have learnt into short words, such as d-i-g.
In maths, we looked at matching items that are alike either by size, colour, or function.
In topic this week, we have been using our observation skills to help us draw. The children have learnt that they need to look really carefully and closely at objects before drawing them. We practised drawing plants before moving on to drawing their self portraits. Next week, we will be adding colour to our self portraits.
