Owls Weekly Update 18.10.24
As part of our foundations for phonics, we have been reading Owl Babies by Martin Waddell.
This story is about a family of owls. We have been talking about who is in our family. As we read, we focussed on who, where, and what questions. Who are the characters? What did the owl babies do? Who are the owl babies waiting for? Where did their mummy go? It is important to share stories with children and talk about what is happening, e.g. who are the characters? Where are they? What are they doing? Reading this book led to us thinking about what our families do for us. They shared how they loved having cuddles, having their favourite food cooked for them and when they had stories read to them.
We have been exploring the school grounds. We went for a walk to look for the signs of Autumn. These are some of the things we talked about. The children had fun throwing the leaves in the air!
- What colours are the leaves?
- Are the leaves on the trees different from the leaves on the ground?
- What has happened to the leaves?
- How do the brown leaves feel?
- What can you hear when you walk through the leaves?
- What do the leaves smell like?
