Weekly Update 8 - w/c 18 November
It was another busy week here in Reception.
At the start of the week, after receiving lots of donations of vegetables (many thanks to all), we began to make vegetable soup. Each child chose a vegetable to prepare. Using their peelers and knives, they peeled, chopped and diced before adding their ingredients to the pot. We added stock and then let the soup simmer for the day. We served the soup with a little creme fraiche and all the children gave it a taste. There was some mixed feedback but a lot of the children finished their cup!
We were also lucky to have a visit from the Royston Fire Service on Thursday. The children were shown the protective clothing fire fighters wear and allowed to see all the different equipment stored on the fire engine outside. They also learnt some important fire safety including what to do if an item of clothing catches fire: Stop, drop and roll!
In phonics this week, we learnt the digraphs zz, qu and ch as well as how to read words ending with a -s.
In maths, we started looking at different representations of the numbers 4 and 5.
Practice for our nativity is well underway. Those children who have volunteered to say some lines will have received them in their book bags. Any help you can give helping them to familiarise themselves with their words would be appreciated.
