Owls Weekly Update 7.3.25
This week we have been enjoying reading and listening to lots of books, stories and rhymes.
One of the books we have shared with the children this week is 'Lulu Loves the Library' by Anna McQuinn. We talked about what a library is and what the word 'borrow' means. We visited our school library. During our reading sessions we focussed on 'who' and 'what' questions to develop children's understanding of what they have heard, e.g. who did Lulu go to the library with? What did Lulu and her mum have to drink at the café? What stories does Lulu like her mum to read to her?
On Tuesday we made pancakes. We read two books about pancakes.
This is one of the 100 books to share with nursery children.
The teachers modelled reading the recipe and talked about the ingredients. The children had an opportunity to use the ingredients to make pancake batter. At snack time, the children got to taste the pancakes and try different toppings, e.g. lemon, sugar, jam etc. We talked about the different textures and smells.
The children also made pretend play-dough pancakes and had fun trying to flip them in the air and catching them in the pan again.
The final book we read this week was 'The Day the Crayons Quit' by Oliver Jeffers. We talked about the illustrations and how the crayons were feeling, e.g. I think this crayon is sad because.... We used emotion cards to help the children read emotions. On Thursday, the children came dressed in their favourite crayon colour.
All week we have been supporting children to develop their drawing skills. We have used crayons and coloured pencils to add more detail to our pictures. They have drawn some amazing pictures!
